Mesut Ozil reacts to Mikel Arteta - After Arsenal's  5-0 defeat to Man City:

Mesut Ozil has aimed a dig at Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta on Twitter following the Gunners' crushing 5-0 defeat against Manchester City on Saturday.

The Gunners have lost their first three games of a league season for the first time since 1954, with the loss at City condemning them to the foot of the table

Mesut Ozil immediately took to Twitter to send a message to Mikel Arteta after Arsenal were hammered by Manchester City to leave them on the foot of the Premier League table.

Ozil was frozen out of Arteta's plans in the latter stages of his Arsenal career, and it seems like no love has been lost since his departure.

Arsenal lost 5-0 to Pep Guardiola's Premier League champions, with Granit Xhaka seeing red in the first half for a lunge on Joao Cancelo.

With fans angry on Twitter after the loss, Xhaka's former Gunners teammate Ozil used one of Arteta's favourite phrases, to sum up, the game.

Mesut Ozil has reacted to Arsenal's Man City defeat:

The German simply tweeted: "Trust the process" in a nod to Arteta's unflappable belief that all will come good for the Gunners under him.

The Spanish boss was down after the loss and admitted his side were well beaten.

"Really painful, a lot of things happened in the game to get where we got," Arteta told.

"I think we started the game really really well, and in the first situation they had the ball wide of the box we didn't defend the cross, we defended the run into the box really poorly and we're 1-0 down.

"Then we tried to go again, we created some situations, and we conceded the second goal.

"For me, it was a clear punch on Callum's face, the referee allows it to go, we are 2-0 down and after the red card we had a mountain to climb."

Ilkay Gundogan and Ferran Torres fired City into a 2-0 lead within 12 minutes before Granit Xhaka saw red after a horrendous challenge in the 35th minute.

Gabriel Jesus made it three on the brink of half-time before Rodri and Torres struck in the second half to complete a 5-0 rout.

Gunners skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang added that he felt his side lacked courage in the game.

"Today it wasn't enough, and against a team like City even when it is 11 against 11 you have to take risks and be brave on the ball, and we didn't today," he told.

"After the red card it was a different game, but this is not enough and everyone has to raise the level, work harder as a team and stick together. This is the only way to go forward.

Ozil's tweet echoed an Arteta statement:

Shortly after full-time, Ozil took to Twitter to seemingly aim a dig at Arteta amid a woeful start to the Premier League campaign.

Martin Keown tears into Arsenal star during the Man City clash.

"We have to play with courage. In this type of game, we have to play with everything and take risks, but we just didn't do enough today.

"I think we have to talk between us players, and I think this is important because we are Arsenal, and we have to show our wounded pride.

"We have to talk, and say the truth to each other, be honest and raise the level."

"When you lose games, it's impossible [to sell to the fans]," Arteta explained.

On Arteta's task to motivate the squad amid such poor form, he added: "It's going to be difficult, but we are a team and we have to stick together at this moment.

"As the senior players, we have to show the way as well.

"It's not going to be easy, but we'll try to give our best."

"But you saw we had 3,000 fans today and the way they reacted to the team and the club with the support they gave, the conditions, that's why we all went to applaud. I am really proud of that.

"I am sorry we could not give the result, and we have to fix it."

Ozil left Arsenal for Fenerbache in January after a spell out of Arteta's plans at the Emirates Stadium.

Before his exit, he hadn't played a minute of football since March 2020 and was excluded from the club's 2020/21 Premier League squad.
